Edo Microfinance Bank Limited transformed from former Ugbowo Community Bank to a Microfinance Bank. This was in response to the Directives by Central Bank of Nigeria that all Community Banks should be recapitalized and changed to Microfinance Banks by 31/12/07.
Ugbowo Community Bank was incorporated as a limited liability company on 9\09\93.The bank was granted a provisional license on 22nd June, 1993 by the National Board for Community Banks, which was then vested with the responsibilities for formulating operational and regulatory policies for community banks. The bank commenced business on the 6th of July 1993 and obtained Central bank full operational license on 24th January, 2002.
The bank computerized its savings and current account operations from inception. Edo Microfinance Bank Ltd was incorporated on 27-11-07 as an indigenous limited liability company with the motive to provide customers with financial support to alleviate poverty using dedicated and well-motivated staff. We are committed to being among the top microfinance banks in Nigeria
The Board of Directors of the bank is comprised of seasoned, tested and well trained Nigerians of integrity with diverse professional experience. The bank’s primary objective is to bank the unbanked (Micro clients) and to take the Small Medium Enterprises (SME) to the next level in their businesses through the provision of efficient financial services while contributing to the regulator’s aim of integrating the informal sector into the mainstream financial system and with this, the rate of poverty and hardship in the locality will be drastically reduced.
